Flex Planning worked closely with Fore Design and State Heritage to facilitate the Development Approval for amended designs to a new multipurpose gallery building. The gallery will house and protect the artistic works of Hans and Nora Heysen as well as providing a shop, protective art storage and workshop spaces.
Through the planning process, the building’s size was reduced to enable a more manageable operating footprint for the gallery and volunteer staff, whilst responding to the current financial realities of the construction environment. Flex Planning managed the planning variations, collaborating with State Heritage, providing consideration for Native Vegetation implications and managing the public notification process, through to Council Assessment Panel Attendance and final Development Approval.
Overall, the Heysen Gallery is a $9m project, funded with a federal grant under the $649m Adelaide City Deal program. Currently in construction, the project is due for completion in the first half of 2026.
