The resulting proposal includes a new stone building that will house a shop for direct sales to the public, a cafe with indoor and outdoor seating, administration and storage spaces, and short-term workers’ accommodation. In addition, upgrades to the existing process facility will assist in optimising current production.
The design by Fore Design incorporates stone and timber elements, and is intended to juxtapose the processing shed while complementing the existing stone dwelling and adjacent outbuildings. While the new structure is 3-storeys, the siting of the building means that from most aspects it reads as 2-storey due to the slope in the landscape.
Planning considerations included the interface between land uses, transport, access and parking, and sensitive stormwater & wastewater management.
